HOW TO MAKE YOUR 2022 HEALTH RESOLUTIONS STICK THIS TIME

I used to have the same New Year’s resolutions each year. They included drink less, lose the weight I generally gained over the holiday period, and to get back into a better exercise routine. Every. Single. Year.

If you’re already thinking about ways you can get healthier in 2️⃣0️⃣2️⃣2️⃣, I can tell you right now that the best way to stick to ALL your health goals is to ditch the booze.

If you’re anything like me and starting to think about your New Year’s resolutions, and they involve drinking less and getting healthier, here’s what I would suggest based on what I’ve learned:

1️⃣ Instead of focusing on drinking less, focus on why you are drinking in the first place. I recommended a 30 day supported break where you can dive deep into your thoughts and beliefs about alcohol. We all drink for a reason. When you find out yours, and begin to investigate whether it’s true or not, it’s a total game changer.

2️⃣ When you take a break from alcohol you will find that eating healthier is SO MUCH easier. You don’t have to worry about fighting the urge to order that greasy takeaway when you’re hungover or count the hundreds of calories from wine and/or sugary mixers. You will have the mental strength and clarity to eat whole and healthy foods that make you feel full and don’t lead to a massive sugar crash later in the day.

3️⃣ Exercise also gets easier, especially when you choose ways to move your body in ways that you enjoy, and have energy to do it! When I quit drinking I got back into my tennis, took up padel, and began practicing regular Pilates. I love it all. It doesn’t feel like a chore at all. Pick exercise that is enjoyable and works into your daily routine.

You don’t have to commit to quitting alcohol forever, but committing to a 30 day alcohol break will allow you to see how your diet and exercise is effected by your drinking. The perfect time to do a booze break is…. you guessed it, Dry January!
