HOW TO FLEX YOUR GRATITUDE MUSCLE

At the beginning of the year I decided to make a commitment to write down one thing that I was thankful for each day. I’ve learned that gratitude is like a muscle, you have to build it up over time, and the stronger that it gets the more powerful it can be, and more impactful on your life.

It’s also such an important lesson, I think, to teach our children- to be grateful each day for every thing that we have.

The medical community has also conducted studies on individuals who practice gratitude and shown that over time these people have better mental and physical health.

So how do we build up our gratitude muscle? Here are a few ways-

🙏🏻💖 Pick a family member each day and tell them why you are grateful for them. Tell your children how much joy they bring into your life, or your partner how grateful you are for their help and support.

🙏🏻💖 Start your journaling practice by writing down one thing you are grateful for each day.

🙏🏻💖 Write a letter of gratitude. This can be to friends, family, or even yourself.

If you’re on a sobriety journey gratitude is so important. When we are thankful and grateful for the things that we have- our family, our health, air to breathe, food to eat, it’s easier to focus on all the good that we have and not concentrate on numbing out the negative.

The pandemic has made me realise just how much I have to be grateful for. After being locked up on and off for two years, getting out and about travelling again feels different, it feels like such a gift.

This week I am grateful for my family, my dear friends, lots of snow, and the ability to eat lots of pasta.

What are you grateful for today? 🙏🏻💖🙏🏻
